How to determine key word density for a phrase. For example, if the key word is "dog" then using "dog" five times in 100 words = 5% density. But if the keyword is the phrase "building dog houses", how many times must that phrase appear in 100 words to get a 5% density?

Hi Barbara

There are several methods used to calculate this but the most popular is taking into account all 3 words. Therefore "building dog houses" mentioned  five times in 100 words = 15% ( 3X5/100). The problem with this is when you look at times when only 2 of the 3 keywords are mentioned in several locations of the page. ie dog houses, building houses, dog, house and building. This is why when you need to look at the variations of words within a keyword phrase and consider all the varations of 1 or 2 words as well.
